Wittenberg alumni 'serve' in many ways, passing on their light to others. As we kick-off our Witt Nation 2009 events this week, we wish we could engage
alumni around the world. We have been linked to Eurpoe through the Young Alumni Travel Program and to the service trip in Lesotho, so we have been dabbling with Witt InterNATIONal. Recently, via email we learned of a young alumnus who wanted to give to the Witt Fund (annual fund) from somewhere in Afghanistan. Of course an on-line gift was possible and the next day there it was...the gift. Since that day, the crew has corresponded with him via email. What we have encountered is 'the gift' was just the catalyst to connect us to a type of service we aren't exposed to daily on-campus. Wittenberg breeds service and giving back to the community...right now, many of our alumni are giving back to our country. Witt Nation honors all alumni engaging in service, all types, a core value of a Wittenberg education. However, today, June 14-Flag Day, we honor those that served or are serving in the military.

Honoring alumni serving our country in the military
This is a fantastic idea. I love the Witt InterNATIONal bent. There are many young alumni in the military because of their ideals--they want to make the world a better place. They are shining the Witt light in Iraq, Afghanistan, and anywhere our country has determined that they are needed. Thank you, Linda, Bob, and the whole crew for highlighting these wonderful men and women whose gifts of self distinguish them for the alumni of other institutions. The Ps--people, passion, place--are awesome!
The Gift of Self
is one that displays the 'true' light...the light that not all can see. Those who see this light are better people. Compassion, caring and grace are all components of the wonderful gift of self! We are not quite to the 3 P's lesson, yet! Thanks for the post and keep following the journey!
