Sometimes These Things Happen....

It wasn't for lack of trying that we were unable to come to you live tonight. Thanks to everyone who tuned in. We are not going to leave you totally hanging. Right now we are recording the live broadcast that we hoped to do and will bring it to you on "tape delay" later this evening. Stay Tuned!

Live From Denver, It's Saturday Night!!

Get ready Denver! Just like last year when we surprised our alumni in Chicago, this year we're pulling out the live Webcast in Denver!! If you missed last year's show, tune in this year - it's actually pretty entertaining. How did Denver get this honor? Well, we had such a great turn out in Denver last year and found that the alumni living in the Mile High City are about as gracious as they come, that we knew this would be the perfect place. This will be day 21 of the tour, so the crew should should have a lot to share at this point.

When? This Saturday, July 18th at 7 p.m. local time (that's 9 p.m. Eastern and 6 p.m. Pacific)

Send us your questions for the road crew! I'm going to be interviewing the crew and have some standard questions, but we want to hear from YOU. You can either comment on this blog, or feel free to send me an e-mail directly at rrafferty@wittenberg.edu. Make sure to include your name and class year with your submission.

To view the Webcast, just come right here to the Witt Nation homepage. We'll have a link up directing you to the viewing page.

Twitter! Follow Us On Twitter!

Twitter... crazy word for a pretty cool way to get your hands on more Witt Nation. Who needs more Witt Nation? Well, from the hits I've been seeing on this site in the past couple of days, I'd say quite a few of you!

If you're not familiar with Twitter, it's one of those new Web technologies that lets you stay more connected with someone than ever before. In addition to these regular blog posts and video loads on our main Web site, the road crew will be sending periodic text message updates from their cell phones to the Web.

So, if it's 9:30 PM and you wonder what hot new Witt Nation news might be breaking, click on over and see what their Twitter messages say (we call those messages "tweets"). Did you know they are at an Abba concert tonight in Chicago? Wonder how it's going right now? Here is where the Tweets come in handy!

In fact, once you click on over, start "following us".  If we get more than 300 "followers" by the 4th of July the road crew is going to get a special surprise when they get to Jackson Hole (yes, that is a challenge). We're starting with 84 "followers" at 10 p.m. on the last day or June.

The link to Twitter will always be available on the right-side of this page, just below the Fuel the Fund link. We wouldn't mind if you clicked on that link either!

Just a Few Weeks Until We're On The Road

It’s the last Friday in May and we’re getting things squared away to hit the road next month. As you might have noticed, we’ve been populating the stops page with a lot of new information. Online event registration will begin next week, so make sure to check back in and get signed up. We’ve confirmed that 24 faculty members will be traveling to various cities this summer. We will be posting the locations that each professor will be attending on the stops page next week and more than likely we'll have some blog posts explaining more about the activities at each stop. This is going to be a great summer and we’re looking forward to having you be part of it!

Announcing Witt Nation 2009!

Greetings Witt Nation Fans! We are back for another cross-country road trip. This year we will be bringing the Witt Nation van to new cities with new cast members and new adventures. Stay tuned every day from this point forward for major announcements about what cities we will be traveling to and how you can get involved.

During the next two weeks we will be unrolling the locations of the tour in some pretty creative ways (we think anyway). With each announcement you'll be able to see some of Witt Nation's new cast members and hopefully participate in different ways.

If you are in need of more rapid information, be sure to follow us on Twitter. We're going to begin announcing the new stops of the tour tomorrow!

Partnership with Lutheran Social Services

Keeping up with Wittenberg's continued committment to serve others, two groups of Wittenberg volunteers teamed up yesterday with Lutheran Social Services of the National Capital Area. With the help of Kati Miller-Holland, an area coordinator for Lutheran Disaster Response (and a Wittenberg parent), the afternoon was filled with service.

One group of volunteers helped sort donations that will be used to furnish apartments for refugees relocating to the D.C. area. The refugees have almost nothing when they arrive in the U.S., so these donations are very needed (visit this website to find out how items can be donated to Lutheran Social Services for refugee families: http://www.lssnca.org/volsub02.htm). Outside of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Falls Church, VA, Witt alumni spent the sunny afternoon rooting though clothing, furniture and dishwares to make it easier for other volunteers to know what had been donated.

The other group of volunteers, made up of current Witt students, put the donations into action by actually furnishing an apartment in Silver Spring, MD for a refugee family from Bhutan. They spent time with the refugee family, moved in furniture, stocked the kitchen full of supplies, and even had a lesson in learning how to fold fitted sheets. After the service, both groups met up to learn more about the refugees, how Lutheran Social Services helps them, and how Wittenberg can stay involved. Service in D.C. was a success! Check out the Photos.
