Wittenberg Center For Musical Development Announces Winter Classes

Springfield, Ohio – The Wittenberg University Center for Musical Development (CMD) announces its winter 2013 music enrichment opportunities for children and adults. Pre-registration is underway, and pricing includes registration fees.
Acoustic Guitar Ensemble requires that students can read music and are playing at an intermediate level of skill. Students will learn to play lead, harmonies and rhythm combinations of folk and other popular songs with other guitars in a group. Classes meet from 5-5:45 p.m. every Thursday from Jan. 10 through Feb. 28 in room 303 Krieg Hall with Janet Ogg providing instruction. The cost is $100 for eight weeks.
Songwriting Class teaches students skills and theory behind composing songs. Music will be analyzed and lyrics will be discussed. Students need to bring the instrument for which they will be writing and a blank manuscript book. Classes meet from 4-4:45 p.m. every Thursday from Jan. 10 through Feb. 28, in room 301 Krieg Hall with instruction provided by Janet Ogg. The cost is $100 for eight weeks.
Start-Up Piano Class for Ages 12 through Adults teaches students to read music, musical notation, rhythms and vocabulary. Classes meet from 7-7:45 p.m. every Wednesday and Friday from Jan. 23 through March 15 in room 301 Krieg Hall with Jack McPeek providing instruction. Textbook for the class is The Older Beginner Piano Course WP 32 by James Bastien. The cost is $100 for eight weeks (one day per week).
Beginning Piano Class for Elementary Age Students, grades K-6, offers first piano lessons in a small group setting to learn to read music and musical notation, find keyboard landmarks and play rhythms. Students will learn to play the piano in Wittenberg’s state-of-the-art piano lab. Classes meet from 4:15-5 p.m. every Monday from Jan. 7 through Feb. 25 in room 301 Krieg Hall with Tiffany Cary providing instruction. Textbook for the class is Bastien Basic Piano Primer Book. The cost is $100 for eight weeks.
