Springfield, Ohio — Wittenberg University’s Department of Music will host a workshop for the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS). Titled “Working in Musical Theatre, While Maintaining Vocal Health,” from 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at the Springfield Center for the Arts at Wittenberg University, 107 Cliff Park Road.

Assistant Professor of Music Jessica McCormack was elected secretary-treasurer for the Buckeye Chapter of the NATS last spring, and Professor of Music and Department Chair David Schubert is also a member of the organization. They were invited to host the fall workshop.

“We have more than 120 members in the state of Ohio,” McCormack said. “We are expecting more than 60 teachers and students to attend the workshop, and I have encouraged the voice majors from my studio to attend and six of them will be joining me.”

The workshop will focus on American Musical Theatre and feature a presentation by New York casting director and producer Michael Cassara. In addition, speech pathologist and singing voice specialist Wendy LeBorgne will guide participants through current trends and discuss topics from healthy singing of the style to preparing singers for successful auditions and careers using today’s technology to advantage.

“We are looking forward to welcoming voice teachers and students from across the state,” McCormack said.
