Springfield, Ohio – With more than 20 years of senior marketing communications leadership in both non-profit and corporate settings, Mark Sullivan will now lead Wittenberg’s strategic marketing efforts as the university’s first-ever chief marketing & communications officer (CMCO).

Sullivan, who will begin his new duties July 1, is currently the director of strategic marketing & communications at The PINGRY School in Martinsville, N.J., an independent, K-12 coeducational, college preparatory day school founded in 1861. As director, Sullivan launched a new branding identity program, oversaw the creation of all external and internal communications programs, and managed all web and portal programs as well as e-communications strategies.

“We are very pleased to welcome Mark to Wittenberg,” said President Mark H. Erickson. “Mark’s unique combination of higher education, secondary education, and corporate experience provides him with a great background to lead Wittenberg’s marketing and communications office and build on the branding work we have already done. We look forward to having Mark, his wife and their two children join the Wittenberg family soon.”

Prior to joining The PINGRY School, Sullivan served as the director of communications for the College of Saint Elizabeth in Convent Station, N.J., where he created and directed all integrated communications plans, institutional branding strategies, outreach and community relations programs, market research and digital communications.

In addition to his higher education expertise, Sullivan also brings extensive corporate experience to the post, having served as the senior global manager for marketing communications for the Agfa Division of Bayer Pharmaceutical Corporation in Ridgefield Park, N.J. In that capacity, Sullivan interfaced directly with corporate headquarters in Europe to implement strategic advertising, public relations, trade shows, conferences, collateral development and other brand recognition programs within the United States.

Sullivan has also served as an account manager with Lohmeyer Simpson, a public relations/advertising agency in Morristown, N.J., an assistant marketing communications manager with Goulds Inc. based in Seneca Falls, N.Y., and as a senior copywriter for Zaccheo, a public relations/marketing communications firm in Kingston, N.Y.

As Wittenberg’s CMCO, Sullivan will provide vision and leadership for university-wide marketing, including public relations and brand strategy.  He will also work collaboratively with all Wittenberg entities to integrate institutional marketing and communications efforts internally and externally, while also enhancing the university’s image regionally, nationally, and internationally in ways that are consistent with Wittenberg’s mission and strategic plan.

“With its long history of excellence, intellectual engagement, outstanding academics, talented faculty and exceptional students, I look forward to being a part of the Wittenberg University community and to expanding its national and global reputation even more,” Sullivan said.

Sullivan earned his B.A. in communications/arts from the State University of New York – Oswego and his M.A. in public relations/advertising communications from Syracuse University’s Newhouse School of Communications.
