Deed of Sale to D. R. Hosterman from The Board of Directors of Wittenberg College
The Board of Directors of Wittenberg College to D. R. Hosterman
Know all men by these presents: That the Board of Directors of Wittenberg College. of the County of Clark and State of Ohio, in consideration of the sum of one thousand dollars to them paid by D. R. Hosterman, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, do hereby Grant, Bargain, Sell and convey to the said D. R. Hosterman his heirs and assigns forever. The following Real Estate situate in the County of Clark, in the state of Ohio, and in the city of Springfield, and bounded and described as follows.
Being lot number thirty seven hundred and seventy seven (3777) on the plat of Wittenberg College in addition to the city of Springfield. It is a condition of this deed that if the said D. R. Hosterman or his heirs or assigns shall permit the manufacture, sale or traffic of in intoxicating liquors on said premises there the same shall be forfeited, and the premises hereby conveyed shall revert to the grantors herein. To have and to hold, said premises, with all the privileges and appurtenances thereunto belonging, to the said D R Hosterman his heirs and assigns forever.
And the said, The Board of Directors of Wittenberg College for themselves and their Successes, do hereby covenant with the said D R Hosterman, his heirs and assigns that they are lawfully seized of the premises aforesaid – that the said premises are free and clear from all incumbrances whatsoever: and that they will forever warrant and defend the same, with the appurtenances unto the said D R Hosterman his heirs and assigns, against the lawful claims of all persons whomsoever.
In Witness whereof the said D. W. Smith as President and Joseph W. Kohler as secretary of the Board of Directors of Wittenberg College, by virtue of the powers and authority in vested, have hereto set our hands and seals this 27th day of September in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight hundred and Eighty two.

Be it remembered, that in this 2nd day of October A.D. 1882, before me the subscriber a notary public in and for said county personally came, the above D. W. Smith Prest. of the Board of Directors of Wittenberg College the Grantor in the above conveyance, and acknowledged the above signing and sealing of the same to be his voluntary act and deed for the uses and purposes therein mentioned.
