’36 |William G. Frick Sr., retiring in 1983 after a lifetime of service with the U.S. Navy, the Coca Cola Co., the Capehart/Farnsworth Co. and the Zenith Corp., lives in Savannah, Ga. He is a bi-weekly golfer and habitual user of his exercise bike.

’50 | Richard E. and Wilma Maurer Werstler ’48 live in North Canton, Ohio. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on June 4, 2009.

Eldon, who had a 36-year head coaching career at Wittenberg, Western Michigan, Ohio State and Northern Iowa universities, continues as an assistant coach for his son at the University of North Carolina-Pembrook. In May, he was inducted into the Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame.

’68 | David W. Benfer lives in Branford, Conn., and Sarasota, Fla. He has retired from the Hospital of Saint Raphael, New Haven, Conn. Warren R. Block, Birmingham, Mich., has retired from the Troy Public Schools.

’70 | Erik R. Hazel, Webster Grove, Mo., has retired as a medical researcher in the School of Medicine at Washington University, St. Louis, Mo. Nancy Heist Kirkland, Cadiz, Ohio, is a library media specialist at Buckeye Trail High School with the East Guernsey Local Schools in Lore City, Ohio.

’71 | Paul and Lucinda Hudson Bagocius live in Canal Fulton, Ohio, where Paul is a candidate for the City Council. Suzanne Valliquette Yager of St. Cloud, Fla., retired from the Miami-Dade County Public Schools on April 1, 2009. She taught the primary grades for 38 years, 29 at Devon Aire Elementary School. Suzanne is active with the Delta Zeta Sorority alumnae.

’73 | Joan E. Berkey is a historic preservation consultant and architectural historian in Cape May Court House, N.J. She prepares nominations for the National Register of Historic Places, creates historic districts, consults with homeowners on appropriate restoration practices and does house histories. She has published the book, Early Architecture of Cape May County, N.J.

’74 | Christopher C. Colenda is the new chancellor of West Virginia University’s Health Sciences, Morgantown, W. Va. Barbara Britton Moser is a retired French teacher living in Dalton, Ohio. Jeffrey R. and Linda Haines Pannebaker live in Silver Spring, Md. Jeffrey, former director of music and Christian education at First Lutheran Church, Johnstown, Pa., was a presenter at a conference sponsored by the Aglow International Ebensburg Community Lighthouse. His presentation, “Safely through  Another Week: Lutheran Hymns in the 19th Century”
examined the hymn repertory of the 19th century English-speaking Lutherans.

’75 | Robert L. Huffman is with the Bush School in Seattle, Wash. He lives in Tukwila, Wash. D. Richard McDonald, a securities law attorney with Dykema, Bloomfield Hills, Mich., has been named by his peers as a leader in his field in the Best Lawyers in America guide for 2010.

’76 | Glenn E. DeMott of Columbus, Ohio, was one of six whistle blowers who worked with the Department of Justice and the U.S. Attorney General’s Office in the Pfizer $2.3 billion fraud case. He tells us that he was influenced by several of his Wittenberg professors in ethical scientific research, Dr. Mason, Dr. DeLanglade and Dr. Curry. He credits his biology background for being able to prosecute this case.

Robert W. Schultz has retired as superintendent of the Tipton Community School Corp. in Indiana, but has returned to serve as the assistant superintendent. He was chosen by members of the Indiana Association of Public School Superintendents as the 2010 District III Superintendent of the Year.”

’77 | Mark V. Basile, Skokie, Ill., is pursuing graduate studies at the University of California at Berkeley and National-Louis University. He has a work study/fellowship through the English, ecology and entomology departments. Mark tells us he has great memories of Wittenberg.

Stuart A. and Julianne Dirocco Smith ’80 live in Upper Sandusky, Ohio. Julianne is an interim pastor at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Plymouth, Ohio.

Robin W. Vugteveen is with Northwest Territorial Mint, Dayton, Nev. The headquarters of the firm which is located in Auburn, Wash., received the Governor’s Award for hiring employees with disabilities. Rob was featured with the governor on the home page of the State of Nevada, www.nv.gov.

’83 | Jennifer A. Giessler is a site supervisor with the City of Tampa Parks and Recreation in Florida.

Brian R. Lawter, a chief warrant officer 4 with the U.S. Army, is deputy director of operations for the security operations center at the Misawa Air Force Base in Japan. He also serves as the executive officer for the 403rd military intelligence detachment. Brian, who has completed his 25th consecutive year on active duty, will be deployed to Iraq.

’85 | Class Reunion, Homecoming/Reunion Weekend 2010 Linda L. Lawrence of San Antonio, Texas, is a colonel with the U.S. Air Force. She serves as EM squadron commander of the Wilford Hall Medical Center and chief consultant of emergency medicine. She also chairs the board of directors of the American College of Emergency Physicians.

’86 | Scott D. Roller traveled Route 66 from Chicago, Ill., to Santa Monica, Calif., taking several thousand photographs along the way. They were featured in a solo exhibit, “66 Shots,” at IMAGEBOX Gallery in Pittsburgh, Pa. The highlight of this exhibit for him was having three Wittenberg classmates attend the closing reception. Scott is currently traveling through the South retracing the Freedom Riders civil rights bus ride routes from the 1960s. The photographs from this journey will be exhibited next fall.

Barbra B. Tingley, Euclid, Ohio, is coordinator of outpatient physical and occupational therapy at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio. She also continues to teach weekly ice skating lessons to children and adults.

Kelly E. Kotary has won best of show in a juried exhibition, Lines into Shapes, at the  Art Center of Estes Park in Colorado. The prize-winning painting, Casey’s Path, is also included in the current exhibit.

Charles J. “Chuck” Carlise Jr., non-fiction editor of the  literary journal, Gulf Coast, is also a creative writing teacher of at-risk high school students with the Writers in the Schools program in Houston, Texas. Chuck is pursuing his Ph.D. in literature and creative writing at the University of Houston. His poems have appeared in numerous publications and an essay, “Bosnia by Bus,” was published by Pebble Lake Review.
