Brian Agler always knew he would follow in his parents’ footsteps as an educator. Unlike his parents, who educated in the classroom, Agler has spent his professional career educating women on the basketball court, first as a college coach and later as a pioneering professional coach who recently became just the seventh coach in WNBA history to win 100 games.

Staci Bertelli Radtke ’97, Bill Bibbee ’71, Glenn Hendrix ’75, Larry Peacock ’70 and Anthony Robinson ’96 will join 184 other Wittenberg greats in the university’s Athletics Hall of Honor during 2010 Homecoming Weekend ceremonies, Oct. 8-10.

On May 22, Don Henderson ’54 and Frank Shannon ’40 became the fourth and fifth former Tiger standouts to gain entry into the Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame & Museum. Henderson and Shannon joined 2009 inductee Eldon Miller ’62 and 2008 inductees Al Thrasher ’64 and Ray Mears, who coached the Tigers from 1956-62.

After leading his team to the NCAC championship, an undefeated regular season and the NCAA Division III Tournament quarterfinals in 2009, Football Head Coach Joe Fincham finished third in balloting by coaches for the Columbus Dispatch Ohio College Football Coach of the Year award.

Charlie Painter ’69 didn’t know exactly what he wanted to do with his life when he graduated from Wittenberg, but there were two things he did know: he wanted to teach, and he wanted to coach. Decades later, Painter owns more than 500 career coaching victories, but not in any of the sports he knew best while at college.

Hannah Scheckelhoff ’11 has shown excellence on the field for three years as a standout for Wittenberg’s field hockey team. Following the publication of her first nationally published article in Library Media Connection in October 2009, co-written with her mother, Terrie, her fine writing skills are also on display.
