On to the next one…

Well, senior year is finally here and the first month of school has gone by faster than I have realized. Wittenberg is always exciting at this time of year because of all the old students returning and the new ones experiencing campus for the first time. I have already enjoyed the start to my senior year by having a few crazy times with all my friends. But the school work for my last year has proved challenging and I can’t believe that I have survived to this point (mostly joking).

As some know I lived on campus all summer and loved the time here, and now with school back in session there are so many people everywhere and it always makes for something to do with someone. However, during the Labor Day weekend I took a trip to Hope College in Michigan to visit my little sister. It was nice to see that she was enjoying her college experience as much as I am here at Witt. Hope was a cool place but I was glad to be back at Witt so that I could spend quality time here before I check out.

Other than that I am still staying busy with basketball, so that all you readers have something exciting to watch this winter. Also my friend Sam and I are waiting to start our radio show that we have been doing for the past 3 years on 89.1 the berg, so if reading my thoughts isn’t enough for you go ahead and try and listen too, but don’t say I never warned you.

“Rocky Top Tennessee”

Monday, August 22nd, 2011

Here goes another blog for all you readers, or maybe just a few, to enjoy. I am still living on Wittenberg’s campus for the summer. I have been having fun with the other summer residents on campus as we have been doing a lot of summer relaxing. In case I have not mentioned, I am on the basketball team here at school and have been keeping busy working the summer bball camps. They all just ended with in the past week and even though it was fun I am ready for a break from chasing around the rambunctious little kids.

While campus has brought a little excitement this year I have ventured away a few times to explore some interesting places. Just a few weeks ago I spent two weeks backpacking, volunteering, and listening to sweet southern bluegrass in the Smokey Mountains of eastern Tennessee. I was there working with the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, a volunteer organization that does maintenance work on the Appalachian Trail. We would hike up on to the mountain ridge and stay there for about six days at a time living off a twigs and berries with none of the necessities of normal society. Ok, we had real food, but everything else in the back country is roughing it. There was a lot of hiking and working done, as well as some laughs and good times with the new people I met. So, if you like camping out and not bathing for days at a time, don’t worry you get used to it, I recommend you check it out for yourself. I enjoyed my time in the south doing some sightseeing around eastern Tennessee while not on the mountain. However, I was happy to return to Witt, and now I am trying to squeeze more fun out of the summer before the exciting new school year begins.

I hope the rest of everyone’s summer is full adventure and if not no worries there will be plenty of it once school starts soon.

The beginning of the end

Monday, June 13th, 2011

Hello current students, new students, prospectives, and any others who have become interested enough to read what I have to say. I have been asked to blog whatever valuable, or not so valuable, ideas I have on my mind in hopes that some will enjoy it and become more interested in my beloved Wittenberg. First off, you all should know that I am Clayton Black a philosophy major and art minor, and I just finished my junior year here at Witt. I am currently enjoying my last summer break before my final year. This place in time right before my college career is over has led me to dub my current situation the beginning of the end.

The school year just ended a few weeks ago, and I got to see some of my closest friends graduate and move away from Witt. It was a happy time on campus, while the seniors really showed how much they enjoyed their time a Witt by celebrating for days at a time and spending as much time as they could with everyone before they left. There were many late nights reminiscing of our times together, and lazy days forgetting about the finals we just finished. I had fun sending the seniors all off on their way and realized how different it will be without many of them. But then I saw signs on campus for pre-orientation days and I remember that there will shortly be a new class of Tigers to make memories with. It seems like just yesterday I visited for my pre-o day and was a nervous little kid, and now I’m a not so little kid nervous about my senior year. Moving towards my last year I have seen many students come and go, but the good times just keep coming.

I am going to spend the rest of my summer on Witt’s campus relaxing in the summer sun as much as possible and living it up with the many other students that are staying in Springfield for the summer. I look forward to updating you readers about my adventures and the activity going on at Witt in the future. Hopefully you all don’t get sick of my writing and enjoy your summers.

Keep on keepin’ on
