Hello, this is Jane from class of ’14. I’m an international student from Vietnam. I have been at Witt for more than two weeks now. Like any other incoming freshmen, I wondered what was there on campus for entertainment on the weekends or when you have free time. I’ve found plenty of activities going on almost everyday, sometimes they take place at the same time or the same day that made me have to keep moving. I want to start a “What to do on campus” series talking about activities on campus. Last weekend, I went to the Battle of the Bands, Pocket Lint show, and sang karaoke at Founders and watched (a lot of) movies at the dorm. It was a new experience for an international student.
First thing, if you don’t have a plan in mind, grab a few friends and TALK, or watch a movie in the TV lounge. Everybody here is so nice and friendly and I bet you can find a lot of cool people here who have the same interests as you. It’s a small but very diverse community.
Now I will go to the fun part:
The Battle and the Bands was an informal competition between music bands from campus, held by Greek Life. There are always new bands so it is usually different each year. For your information, Just Eve and Wittmen Crew are two popular acapella bands on campus. And yes, they were good. There was free food and it was a great chance to make new friends and find out more about Greek Life. The Pocket Lint show was similar to an improv comedy show (if you watched “Whose Line is it anyway”), in which actors will play not according to a script, but just go with the flow and by interacting with the audience. The show was definitely worth it. The actors were very quick in responding and absolutely hilarious. A must-go show! You will laugh your guts out.
After that, my friends and I went to Karaoke Night, which is held every Friday Night at Founders bar (on campus). We just relaxed and sang. Singing and supporting your friends was the fun of it, and making new friends and singing with them. There is special food every weekend too.
Still bored? Opposite to the Founders bar is the Doppelganger’s Game room. You can play Wii, Ping pong, and other games…
That was all my Saturday. This week there are some more activities going on. I’ll tell you about them. See ya!
