Bahamas students ready to learn snorkeling
The 2012 Bahamas program is underway! 21 students arrived on campus on Monday afternoon for four weeks of learning and fun.
Bahamas students learn to snorkel in the pool
Monday afternoon we started off in the pool getting everyone familiar with their snorkel gear, learning water safety and how to dive under the water to get close to the cool stuff on the bottom. Students figured out what they wanted to know about San Salvador and the Bahamas and spent time looking up information to answer their own questions.
On Tuesday, we focused on learning sampling techniques—directed observations, how to use the GPS units, and how to sample a habitat using transects. We finished up on Tuesday night with a luggage weigh-in and preparation for the travel day on Wednesday.
To learn transects, we looked for snakes in the grass. Literally.

Hey, Jon and Alex! I miss you guys sooo much!!!! I miss coming over on weekends and getting so spoiled!! lol! I hope you guys are have a great time!!! When mom or dad comes and picks you guys up, me and Jenna will be there and waiting on you guys. Summer ball is going great. We had our first two games yesterday and practice! The first 10 minutes of practice and coach patton was already yelling at us to hustle and hurry! We were going over rebounding when someone is shooting! He mentioned your name and everybody was staring at us! Jenna and I did soo good. There was a time when Jenna had my back and gaurded my girl cuz I didn’t know where she was, cuz i didn’t let here have the ball and when she did the only time Jenna had my back! I gaurded 2 girls that elbowed like it was there day job, but that didn’t stop me at all! I just pushed them back and played harder than I have ever played!! Jon, those alien movies are awesome! Thanx for letting us borrow them!!! I love and miss you both!
